NIKHEF-K, a centre for studying the electromagnetic structure of nuclei

At NIKHEF-K (formerly IKO), an investigation into nuclei is commencing using modern equipment and electromagnetic interactions at medium high energies. Probing nuclear structure with the aid of electrons appears to be extremely fruitful, due to the simple reason that the interactions occurring in the scattering process can be accurately described in terms of quantum electrodynamics. Hence the experimental material to be analysed only contains pure information regarding nuclear structure. The consequence of such research using electron beams are discussed and the contribution from NIKHEF-K during the 1980's is outlined. (C.F.)
