Elimination of the vector processor from the Monticello Nuclear Plant Simulator by improvement of the numerical method of the reactor core model
Description
In the early 1980's, when Singer-Link built the Monticello nuclear plant simulator, a Vector Processor (V.P.) was utilized for sole calculation of the reactor core model. It was extremely difficult and time consuming to debug and tune the core Model. The main reasons for these difficulties were poor documentation and high complexity of preformatting, compiling, and cataloging procedure for the V.P. This paper reports on the improvement of numerical methods for both neutronics and thermal-hydraulics calculation. Now the core model written in FORTRAN is part of SEL Executive programs and the Vector Processor is completely eliminated by this new methodologies
