Performance study on compactibility and sinterability in terms of fabrication of UO2-GD2O3 pellets
Description
This paper presents a study on compactibility and sinterability of UO2 powder produced by IDR (Integrated Dry Route) process in terms of fabrication of UO2-Gd2O3 pellets in YFP(YiBin Nuclear Fuel Element Plant), focusing on these test results. It is observed that compactibility of UO2 powder is very bad, but its sinterability is very good. It is also found that Gd2O3 can degrade compactibility and sinterability of blending powder, Gadox ((U,Gd)3O8) can improve its compactibility and the pellet density can be adjusted to meet the specification requirements by adding pore former and Gadox.
