Advanced laser development in APRC JAERI/Kansai

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, Kyoto (Japan)

Description

The Advanced Photon Research Center (APRC) JAERI/Kansai is pursuing the research and development od advanced photon sources such as a compact, ultra-short, high intensity laser, a compact short wavelength X-ray laser, and a superconducting linac-based Free Electron Laser (FEL) and their applications. We report the recent remarkable progresses achieved on the development. A Ti:sapphire CPA laser system conjunction with the advanced solid-state laser technologies has opened new avenues for the production of multiterawatt femtosecond pulses with ever increasing both peak and average powers with peak power of 0.85 PW and pulse duration of 33 fs. A X-ray laser with the scheme of Transient Collisional Excitation (TCE) opened a new stage of coherence. We have achieved full spatial coherence at 13.9 nm with the visibility of 96% and the divergence of 0.2 mrad. JAERI FEL has successfully demonstrated the efficient and powerful FEL driven by a compact, stand-alone and zero-boil off super-conducting rf linac with an energy-recovery geometry, with the highest efficiency of 6-9%, and the highest average power of >2kW
