Neutron resonance capture studies of calcium isotopes
Description
The aim of this work was to study the nuclear structure and the reaction mechanism of neutron resonance capture in the calcium isotopes. The study involved neutron capture cross section measurements of 40Ca, 42Ca, 43Ca and 44Ca, and neutron capture gamma ray spectrum measurements of 40Ca. The results of the study have shown that the radiative capture process is very complex, involving channel capture, doorway states and the compound nucleus process. The calcium nuclear structure was found to have significant amounts of non-spherical shell-model configurations. (author)
