Estimate of the coherent electroproduction cross section of pions in relativistic nuclei collisions
Description
On the assumption, that the scheme of particle generation in e-p collisions through virtual photon interaction may be extended to collisions of relativistic nuclei, the cross-sections of pion generation are evaluated. A virtual photon arises due to coherent action of the whole charge of the nucleus, its protons only transporting this charge. The virtual photon interacts with one of the nucleons of the target nucleus or of the incident nucleus. For the coherent process of electrogeneration with nuclei colliding the scale invariance is supposed to be valid (confirmed in experiments on pion generation by deuterons). Considered is collision of nuclei with Z1=Z2=20 and energy of 20 GeV/nucleon. The enrgy of π+-meson in the centre-of-mass system virtual photon-proton is Esup(*)=4.95 GeV. The total cross-section of pion electrogeneration is sigmasub(tot)=3μ bar, the differential cross-section (in laboratory system) is dsigma/dΩsub(π)=3.7 μ bar/steradian
