Neutron irradiation effect upon the Raman spectra of α-quartz

Description
To study radiation-induced processes of defect formation and phase transitions for α-quartz the method of combination scattering is used. It has been shown that neutron irradiation with the doses about 2x1020 n/cm2 causes considerable changes in the Raman spectra of the α-quartz samples. The results have been compared to temperature dependent Raman spectra. A β-quartz-like structure is supposed to have been formed in a certain part of α-quartz under the effect of neutron fluxes of about 5x1019 n/cm2
