BGO detectors improve spatial resolution of nuclear fuel scanners

Description
A high speed fuel rod scanner is discussed, emphasizing the functions which use bismuth germanate. A densitometer inspects the fuel rods for interpellet gaps and to measure variations in fuel column length. The fuel rod then enters the irradiator containing a neutron source and bismuth germanate detectors for detecting delayed gammas due to fission
