HERA-B status and first results

Description
HERA-B is an experiment designed primarily to study CP violation looking at decays of B mesons into the 'gold plated' decay B0→J/ψKS0. These B mesons are produced in interactions of 920 GeV protons of the HERA proton beam with an internal wire target in the beam halo. In addition to the CP violation measurement, the experiment addresses a wide range of topics in heavy quark physics, complementing the physics accessible at e+e- colliders, which are already in operation. A brief overview of the detector and trigger, its status, and some of commissioning results achieved as of late spring 2000 are presented
