Energy futures 2050: our alternate scenario to RTE's ones. A nuclear program for 2050. Alternate scenario to RTE's 'Energy futures 2050' - Executive synthesis + Final report
Description
A first document discusses lessons which can be learned for France from European neighbours regarding the massive development of intermittent energies (wind and solar) which resulted in a climatic dead-end and an economic failure for some of these neighbours. It outlines dead-ends in the RTE report on energy futures for 2050: hypotheses of a very strong increase of electric power needs are not enough taken into account; RTE only considers very questionable hypotheses on means to face consumption peaks; there is no reliable study of the carbon impact of scenarios comprising a lot of renewables; environmental stakes are poorly highlighted. Then, it proposes a scenario for the future characterized by: investment only in decarbonized and steerable electrical energies, limited gas capacities, no financial support to intermittent renewable energies which are useless in this scenario. An appendix identifies environmental, energy, economic and social objectives for a sustainable French energy policy. A second document proposes a nuclear programme for 2050 with a discussion of electric power consumption by 2050, a discussion of the energy production mix by 2050, a discussion of the necessary nuclear production fleet, and a discussion of the price of nuclear electric power. Another document proposes a detailed critical analysis of the RTE N 03 scenario, outlines the benefits of an extension of the historical nuclear fleet lifetime and of a plan of construction of new reactors, discusses the higher electric power demand than the one foreseen in the RTE scenario as a consequence of a strong industrialization
