Description
As concerns a new method for high-speed readout of images developed in a neutron imaging plate (NIP), optimization of the NIP thickness was dealt with by considering the attenuation of photostimulable luminescences (PSLs) in NIP during their transmission. Formulas were deduced to evaluate the quantitative intensity of PSLs corresponding to various X-ray energies. The validity of the formulas is confirmed with fundamental experiments. The calculation and experimental results are used to determine the optimal thickness of NIP for thermal neutrons as 45 μm, where the intensity of PSLs to be detected at the backside of NIP becomes maximum.
