Application of overcontrolled scintigraphy in the diagnosis of autonom adenomas of the thyroid gland
Description
A review of 40 cases with decompensated thyroid adenoma is presented. The applied radioisotopes were 35 μCi 131I or 500 μCi sup(99m)Tc. In 33 cases the application of the overcontrolled technique resulted in the visualization of the thyroid tissue around the adenoma. The efficiency of the TSH-stimulation equalled that of the overcontrolling. The Metothyrin suppression proved to be more efficient only in one case out of 11. Overcontrolling can also be successfully applied in the evaluation of residual activity after thyreoidectomy. The advantage of the overcontrolled technique consists in the possibility that, the scintingram can be made at once, neither prolonged treatment, nor repeated isotope administration are necessary.
