Method for failed fuel element detection
Creators
Description
The method is particularly suitable for spent fuel elements after storage and decay of the characteristic radioactive fission products. According to the invention the element or assembly to be tested is inserted in a pressure container. Subsequently, the coolant is analysed in order to detect non-radioactive fission products or unchanged fuel components released from the failed fuel element. The process can be enhanced by applying suitable solvents under pressure
