The design and construction of a thin foil high field magnet

Description

The design and construction of a new type of high field magnet is described. The conductor is a thin (0.15 mm) Cu-foil which is separated by a 12 μm Hostaphan foil. The magnet was designed electrically as well as the mechanical stress was estimated. The design shows that this magnet should produce fields up to 35 T with our Austromag system (10 MW for 1 s). First tests were performed using a 24 mF capacitor bank
