Anisotropic collisional alignment of hydrogen atoms under conditions of stationary isotropic excitation

Description

Occurrence of alignment of atomic angular moments and linear polarization of Lyman α-line light at collisions of proton beam with hydrogen atoms continuously and isotropically excited to degenerated level of energy with n = 2 is studied theoretically. Signals of alignment of angular moments and degree of light linear polarization depending on rate and density of proton beam and on ration of excitation intensities of hydrogen atom 2p- and 2s-states are calculated. Alignment of angular moments and light polarization are maximal in case of excitation of pure 2s-state. 4 refs., 4 figs
