Description

The Dalat Nuclear Research Reactor (DNRR) is a pool type research reactor which was reconstructed from the 250 kW TRIGA-MARK II reactor. The reconstructed reactor reached its initial criticality in November 1983 and attained its nominal power of 500 kW in February 1984. For the purpose of the safety management of the radioactive waste generated, a combined technological system for low level radioactive waste management has been constructed. The system consists of radioactive liquid waste treatment station and an interim storage facility. The treatment methods used for radioactive liquid waste are coagulation and precipitation, mechanical filtering and ion exchange. The interim storage facility constructed for solidification and interim storage of low level radioactive waste contains eight concrete pits. This paper presents the management of low activity radioactive waste practiced at the DNRR. (author)
