Radioiodine in the Tarapur environment due to Chernobyl reactor accident

  • 1. Tarapur Atomic Power Station (India). Environmental Survey Lab.
  • 2. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Health Physics Div.

Description

The radioiodine due to Chernobyl accident fallout was first detected at Tarapur on 14th May in animal thyroids. This led to a complete study of 131I in all environmental matrices. The paper describes the levels of 131I in different environmental samples and reveals that the radiation hazard to the public due to Chernobyl accident fallout 131I activity levels are insignificant.
