In situ measurement experiences

The Remote Sensing Laboratory, operated by EG and G for the Department of Energy, is prepared to aid in the decontamination process. For many years EG and G has constructed and operated specialized gamma-sensing equipment for the evaluation of radioactive contamination. Many gamma surveys from both aerial and ground vehicles have helped find, identify, and quantify radioactive contamination. Gamma survey data overlaid on EG and G's aerial photographs indicate the location of contamination with a high degree of accuracy. The recent addition of aerial multispectral scanning extends our capability to the determination of environmental effects. EG and G is prepared also to deploy people and equipment quickly for the rapid assessment of nuclear and non-nuclear accidents and spills.
