Feasibility of synthesis of anisotropic morphology Ba/sub 2/YCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-chi/ powder by molten salt technique

Description
Molten salt or the flux method was utilized in this study in an attempt to grow particles of Ba/sub 2/YCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/ with anisotropic morphology. The formation of Ba/sub 2/YCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/ in the presence of molten salts of Na-K, Ba-Cu and Cu belonging to chloride and sulfate systems does not appear to be feasible in the temperature range of 4000-9000C. The presence of a eutectic liquid seems to accelerate the decomposition of the solid-state reacted Ba/sub 2/YCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/ powders. The compatibility test for the undried solvents with Ba/sub 2/YCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/ showed that Ba/sub 2/YCu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/ could be exposed to acetone and propanol without any deleterious effects while glycerol reacted with it
