One-dimensional nonlinear wake fields excited in a cold plasma by charged bunches

Description
One-dimensional nonlinear plasma wake fields excited by a single bunch and by a series of bunches are considered. The essential differences between the negatively-charged bunch case and the positively-charged one are explained. The bunches with nonuniform distributions of density are investigated. The obtained results show the dependence of excited potential electric fields on bunch parameters and permit the selection of optimal parameters. copyright 1997 American Institute of Physics
