Description

Public opinion regarding the health hazards of natural and man-made radioactivity is discussed. Numerous examples are related that illustrate the public acceptance of natural radioactivity in soils and water while insisting that much lower dose levels of environmental radioactivity resulting from the operation of nuclear facilities be reduced still further. It is pointed out that fossil fuels are radioactive and that radioactivity emissions from a fossil-fuel power plant are greater than those from a PWR nuclear power. (U.S.)
