Development of an accelerator based intense 14 MeV neutron generator for fusion neutronics experiments at IPR

Description
An accelerator based 14 MeV neutron generator for neutronics studies related to fusion reactor is under development at the Institute for Plasma Research. Neutrons are generated from the nuclear reaction 3H(d,n) 4He by bombarding a solid tritium target with deuterons accelerated to 300 keV in an electrostatic accelerator. The testing of the ion source has been completed and has been installed and tested on high voltage deck. The conceptual design and 2D design of the bending magnets has also been completed, along with installation and testing of the 300 kV power supply, accelerating tube, faraday cup and 350 kV isolation transformer has been completed. Installation and testing of beam profile monitor and beam steerer is in progress. The recent experimental result of the ion beam current measurement at the target location is presented.
