Scientific model of the imaging Compton telescope ''COMPTEL''

Description
A scientific model of the GRO instrument COMPTEL consisting of one module of each detector of the real telescope, has been constructed and tested using radioactive sources. The responses of the detector modules combine to produce a COMPTEL energy resolution of 7.5% at 1.4 MeV and 6% at 2.8 MeV with Compton tail suppression according to the Compton telescope principle. The Anger Camera principle employed in the detectors yields an accuracy of about 2.5 cm for the interaction positions of the gamma rays. These results combine to yield a 1 sigma angular resolution of 1.3 degrees at 2.8 MeV for the COMPTEL gamma-ray telescope
