Introduction to critical phenomena through the fiber bundle model of fracture

  • 1. PoreLab, Department of Physics, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NO–7491 Trondheim (Norway)
  • 2. Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata 700064 (India)

Description

We discuss the failure dynamics of the fiber bundle model, especially in the equal-load-sharing scheme. We also highlight the 'critical' aspects of their dynamics in comparison with those in standard thermodynamic systems undergoing phase transitions. (paper)
