Education and continued training of radiation protection for public health workers in the GDR

A profound qualification of workers, senior managers and regulatory officers in the field of radiation protection is an essential prerequisite for the effective and safe use of ionizing radiation sources, particular in the context of medical radiology. Therefore, special up grading courses are offered by the National Board for Atomic Safety and Radiation Protection for competent staff members, radiation protection officers and medical doctors. In addition to specialized basic and advanced courses concluding with the award of a state qualification certificate, a system of highly-specialized further education courses and a postgraduate study of atomic safety and radiation protection have been set up.
