The K2WO4-Cs2WO4-WO3 system

  • 1. Rostovskij-na-Donu Inzhenerno-Stroitel'nyj Inst. (USSR)

Description

The phase diagram of the ternary system K2WO4-Cs2WO4-WO3 has been studied. The formation of a new compound K2WO4xCs2WO4x3WO3 in the system has been established. The compound is of an incongruent character and can be considered as potassium-cesium isopolytungstate. Its individuality has been confirmed by X-ray phase analysis. The field of continuous solid solutions K2(Cs2)WO4 occupies the dominating position in the system. Monovariant boundary curves intersect in six nonvariant points one of which is eutectic (tsub(melt)sup(')=580 deg C) and other are transient. Potassium-cesium bronzes have been obtained by electrochemical reduction in the melts. The existence region of the bronzes is from 40 to 60% of WO3 and 5-100% of Cs2WO4. The data are given of studying three compositions of the bronzes Ksub(x)Cssub(y)WOsub(3) which form structures of two different types. Isolated potassium-cesium bronzes have metal brightness and good electroconductivity; they can be used as electrode materials
