Description

The 15 UD Pelletron is presently the main accelerator facility providing various ion beams in the energy range of a few tens of MeV to 270 MeV for scheduled experiments. The first module of having eight superconducting niobium quarter wave resonators of LINAC booster has been made operational for experiments. The module has been tested and used to accelerate 130 MeV 28Si+10 beam from 15 UD Pelletron to a maximum of 151 MeV. Stable beam of 148 MeV 28Si+10 was delivered for carrying out an experiment to study fusion-fission reaction dynamics using neutron multiplicity measurements. A new type of high temperature superconducting electron cyclotron resonance ion source (HTS-ECRIS) was designed and fabricated. It is in regular operation as a part of alternate high current injector (HCI) system to inject highly charged ions into the LINAC. A prototype radio frequency quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator is being developed to accelerate highly charged particles (A/Q ∼7) to an energy of 180 keV/A. The beam will then be accelerated further by drift tube Linacs (DTL) followed by low beta cavities for velocity matching to LINAC booster.
