Jejunal bleeding from a solitary large submucosal artery

Description
The case of a 14-year-old girl with massive intestinal hemorrhage resulting from rupture of a solitary submucosal vascular abnormality of the jejunum is reported. The lesion was localized by sup(99m)Tc-Sn colloid scintigraphy and abdominal angiography. The vascular lesion encountered in this patient consists of a wide caliber artery lying in the jejunal submucosa. No evidence of true aneurysma was seen in serial sections. After local resection, the clinical course was uneventful. RI imaging technique gave a simple, practical, and reliable aproach to the evaluation of the patient. This patient is the youngest case reported in the literature of massive G-I bleeding caused by this abnormality. (author)
