Development of a new biodosimetry: detection of serum iron in gamma-irradiated mice

Description

A new biological dosimeter based on serum iron was developed. We use biological dosimeter for rapid identification of large numbers of personnel were irradiated, and eliminate some people were irradiated by small doses who need no medical intervention in the sudden radioactive accident. The writer measured the concentration of serum iron (III) of mice which were irradiated in the different dose and different time point between 0-16 d. The results show that serum iron concentration is in direct proportion to irradiation dose, and the dose-effect relationship of the indicator is obvious. Using the serum iron as a new type of irradiation of biological marker to estimate the dose of irradiated personnel is rapid, economic and effective. (authors)
