Excessively high radon levels in new houses

NRPA conducted during the winter of 2008 a nationwide survey of radon in homes built after 1999 to examine the radon concentration in indoor air. The results show that it is still being built homes with high radon concentrations, and that houses are not sealed towards the ground. Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs in all building ground. It is estimated that radon is the contributing factor to about 300 lung cancer deaths annually in Norway. The risk increases with radon exposure. (AG)
