Reinvestigation of the preparation of 131I-4-iodoantipyrine from 131I-iodide
Description
123I-4-Iodoantipyrine (4-IAP) has been suggested as a radiopharmaceutical for direct imaging of regional cerebral perfusion. In routine clinical use, a reliable source of the labeled compound is required. Therefore, we chose to reinvestigate the preparation of 131I-4-IAP from 131I-iodide and unlabeled 4-IAP or 4-bromoantipyrine (4-BrAP) in acidic, aqueous solution. Using 4-IAP as starting material, quantitative yields (greater than or equal to 95 percent) of labeled 4-IAP are obtained with 5 min of heating at 1000C in the pH = 1.5 to 2.5 and free radioiodide can be removed by anion exchange. Mechanistic implications of the labeling kinetics are discussed
