Applicability of microcomputers in monitoring and protection of nuclear power plant systems

  • 1. Vyskumny Ustav Jadrovych Elektrarni, Trnava (Czechoslovakia)

Description

The problems are discussed of integrating the system of protection of nuclear power plants in the automated system of process control in the nuclear power plant. Four variants of microcomputer systems are suggested for the safety system which differ in the structure of technical support. The software of the individual variant designs depends on the use of hardware and on the range and type of demands put on the protection system. It is stated that two types of the designed microcomputer systems may also be implemented in Czechoslovak nuclear power plants, within the automated control systems being developed. The contribution of microcomputer systems to nuclear power plant protection mainly consists in that linked to automated systems of production process control and to reliability information systems they may be used to assess the functionality and worthiness of the equipment of nuclear power plants.
