Evaluation of biological effectiveness of the radiation influence following the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev (Ukraine). Inst. Problem Onkologii

Description

The results from experimental research of biological effectiveness under the combined external and internal irradiation of the animals, being in the zone of the radionuclides' pollution after accident at the Chernobyl NPP are analyzed. It is shown that a prolonged radiation action at low doses leads to more essential negative effects, both early and remote ones, than one could expect from the analysis of the previously established ''dose-time-effect'' relations for the short-time irradiation of the biological objects with the radiation of one type. Thus, a classic extrapolation of the experimental results from the single actions of high-dose radiation to the constant action range of low-dose radiation is nonuniform. (author)
