Flow-induced instability of an elastic tube with a variable support

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., IL (USA). Components Technology Div.

Description

Equations are developed governing the stability of a fluid-conveying tube which is clamped at the upstream end and free at the other with a variable knife-edge support at some interior point. Using these equations, the stability characteristics of such a configuration are analyzed numerically. Of particular interest is the effect on stability response produced by a change in support position. (orig.)
