Nonresonant mechanism for ion heating by MHD waves

Description
Plasma heating by fast magnetosonic waves is studied. It is assumed that the particles are not at resonance with the waves and have a velocity much smaller than the Alfven velocity. The interaction with the waves results from the presence of a low-frequency tail on the spectrum of magnetic perturbations. Some specific mechanisms which might lead to this tail are proposed. Astrophysical applications are discussed
