Method to reduce the 131 iodine content in the cooling water of a pressurized water reactor
Description
Due to once-through or repeated power production in PWR before the planned shut-down to the condensation of the coolant in the fuel rods, iodine 131 is dissolved up by the condensed water and is introduced into the cooling circuit by leaks in the fuel rods. This can lead to iodine saturation. A decontamination equipment placed in the cooling circuit absorbs the I 131 after shut-down until the initial equilibrium concentration is reached. (DG)

Durch einmalige oder wiederholte Leistungsreduktion im DWR vor dem geplanten Abschalten bis zur Kondensation des Kuehlmittels in den Brennstaeben wird das J 131 von dem kondensierten Wasser geloest und durch Leckstellen in den Brennstaeben in den Kuehlkreislauf eingebracht. Dies kann bis zur Jodsaettigung erfolgen. Eine im Kuehlkreislauf angeordnete Reinigungsanlage nimmt das J 131 nach dem Abschalten bis zum Erreichen der Ausgangsgleichgewichtskonzentration auf.
