Investigation of the reaction of carbon monoxide with Pd, Al2O3, and Pd/Al2O3 surfaces by isotope exchange

  • 1. D.I. Mendeleev Inst. of Chemical Tech., Moscow, USSR

Description

Isotope exchange was used to investigate the reaction of CO with Pd, Al2O3, and Pd/Al2O3. The supporting of Pd on X-Al2O3 at the 0.13-1.2 wt.% levels had no significant effect on the reaction of CO with the Al2O3 surface in the temperature range 300-4000C. At low temperatures (-38 to 500C), the rate of homomolecular isotopic exchange of CO on the Pd/Al2O3 catalyst having an average crystal size of 30 and 60 angstrom is significantly lower than on Al2O3, which is caused by the interaction of the supported metal with electron-acceptor centers on the support surface
