Cumulative production of π0 mesons at 1800 angle in the reaction π-C→π0X at 3.8 GeV/c

Description

The energy spectrum of π0 mesons produced from carbon nuclei at lab angles 160--1800 by 3.8-GeV/c π- mesons was measured in the kinetic-energy range 100< or =T< or =500 MeV. The π0-meson spectrum is represented in the form of an invariant cross section Ed3sigma/dp-bar3, where E and p are respectively the total energy and momentum of the produced pion. The data were parametrized with the aid of the equation Ed3sigma/dp-bar3 = A exp (-T/T0), where T is the π0-meson kinetic energy. The parameters characterizing the invariant cross section for π0-meson production at T = 0 and the slope of the exponential were found to be A = 212 +- 63 mb x c3/GeV2 and T0 = 61 +- 4 MeV
