Environmental and geochemical situation of the Ignalina NPP affected zone

Description

An effect of the Ignalina NPP on a chemical composition of a water of Drisvyaty lake is investigated. For this purpose the complex analysis of ecological and geochemical situation in the Ignalina NPP affected zone is conducted. It was shown the operation of station has changed a chemical composition of a water (mineralization and contents of ions Cl-, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3- has increased). Discrete areas with the increased contents of chromium, boron, vanadium, manganese were detected in the soil cover. The gamma-activity of the lake's sediments in release zone of the spent waters (5.0*10-9 Ci/kg) has almost double excess comparatively of the other part of the lake and background (2.6*10-9 Ci/kg). It is caused availability of radionuclides (60Co and 54Mn), which get into Drisvyaty lake with spent waters from the secondary circuit of a cooling system of the power unit of NPP. 10 refs., 2 tabs., 2 figs
