Description
This review mainly concentrates on the following two problems. The first problem concerns the properties of pion degress of freedom in nuclear and neutron matter, the second one deals with various phenomena in atomic nuclei and neutron stars for which pion mode softening plays an important part. The properties of the pion degrees of freedom in dense and hot nuclear matter are extensively discussed. Applications to heavy-ion collisions are considered. (orig.) With 450 refs
