Description of the UB-experiment in the polar 5(F45) rocket
Description
The equipment for the University of Bergen (UB) experiment installed in the auroral rocket Polar 5(F45) is described and illustrated in drawings and diagrams. The object of the experiment was to measure electrons in the energy range 15-300 keV, protons in the range 20 keV-8MeV and X-rays in the range 3-90 keV. The purpose of the X-ray experiment was to map the spatial and temporal distribution of electron precipitation by measuring the bremsstrahlung X-rays. Semiconductor detectors were used to measure pitch angle and energy distribution of medium energy protons and electrons and how these are related to ion, light and X-ray production. The rocket performed well and all instruments functioned satisfactorily. Preliminary results were presented at the ESA meeting 3.-7. May 1976 at Schloss Elmau, Germany. (JIW)
