Solvent extraction and stripping studies in microchannels with TBP nitric acid system

  • 1. Chemical Engineering Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Solvent extraction of nitric acid from 3M nitric acid aqueous stream into an organic stream having 30% Tri-butyl phosphate (TBP) in dodecane has been studied in a T-junction microchannel. Effects of O/A ratio and residence time on stage efficiency and overall volumetric mass transfer coefficients have been studied. Liquid-liquid flow patterns have been observed using a high speed image acquisition system. The experimental results suggest that it is possible to achieve high stage efficiencies in short residence times in solvent extraction in microchannels. (author)
