Description
In this report, the results of the repository simulation test which is proposed by European Communities (EC round robin test) are described. The leaching experiment at controlled temperature of 90degC and normal atmospheric pressure was performed for up to one year. The simulated waste glass SON 68 17 fabricated by CAE Marcoule was used together with backfill materials and crushed granite. Volvic water was poured as the simulant of underground water passing through granitic formation. After a certain period, the loss of mass of soluble and insoluble elements was determined. The quantitative analysis was performed for supernatant and pore water in the test vessel for taking the diffusive migration of elements down to the bottom of the vessel into account. The determination by ICP emission spectroscopy and AAS adsorption spectroscopy indicated the loss of mass of respective elements in the order of B, Mo, Li, Na, Si, Sr, Fe and Zn. The most suitable element to indicate the net dissolution amount of glass may be boron because of its high solubility and no indication of leaching from environmental materials. The validity of the test procedure of the EC round robin test was shown in the comparison with the JSS test. (Kako, I.)
