Adoption of new recommendations made by International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP)

With the aim of systematizing technical standards related with protection of radiation injury, the Radiation Council, which has been established within the Japan's Science and Technology Agency, made studies over the recommendations made by ICRP in 1977 (Publication 26) and submitted a report calling for revision of laws and regulations to the directors of administrative organizations and agencies concerned. In response to this, laws and regulations related were revised in 1980. The Radiation Council continued studies on specific standards, including those for maximum permissible radiation dose. Following the Paris Statement in 1985, the Council made recommendations to the directors of administrative organizations on July 8, 1986. In response to this, those organizations conducted work for revision of laws and regulations and requested the Council to made studies on alterations to technical standards so as to meet the ICRP recommendations. The Council submitted reports to the directors of organizations concerned (Science and Technology Agency, Health and Welfare Ministry, International Trade and Industry Ministry, Transport Ministry, Labor Ministry, National Personnel Authority) as of December 9, 1987.
