Description

Photoemission spectroscopy reveals that the maximum U 5f-emission is pinned to the Fermi energy EF and the T 3d-bands are pushed below EF for T=Fe to Ni. For U6Mn at least parts of the 3d-band are shifted towards higher binding energies. Both effects reduce the partial 3d-DOS at EF and thus the strong U 5f-T 3d-mixing which seems to be correlated with the observed decrease of the superconducting Tc. No tendency to U 5f-localization with reduced 5f-3d-mixing could be observed by XPS. (orig.)
