Thermal explosion for the molten copper water system

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Research, Warsaw (Poland)

Description

Main results of the experimental study of the thermal explosion event for the molten copper-water thermal interaction are considered. Mechanism of thermal explosion, which bases on the experimental observation of small liquid ''jets'' from the molten hot material drop (molten copper) into the cold liquid surroundings (cold water) is given. The thermal explosion event is divided into the following phases: triggering of the phenomenon, fragmentatiion of the hot material and vapour explosion of the cold liquid. (author)
