Validation of a technique of measurement in vivo of 131I in thyroids

Description
The Total Body Counter (TBC) Laboratory of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, following the institutional initiative of quality assurance in its measurement techniques, has been involved in an accreditation process based on the ISO/IEC 17205:2005 norm. In vivo measurement of 131I in thyroid has been selected as the first technique in this process, and it is described in this paper. The TBC Laboratory uses for this technique a gamma spectrometry system with a NaI(Tl) detector, calibrated with a neck simulator of the IRD and a certified plane source of 131I with thyroid form. It has been carried out a validation plan that has permitted the characterization of the 131I measurement technique, and its uncertainty evaluation. Measurement parameters that affect the uncertainty are discussed and recommendations for the technique optimization are proposed. (authors)

El Laboratorio Contador de Todo el Cuerpo (CTC) de la Autoridad Regulatoria Nuclear (ARN) de Argentina, siguiendo la iniciativa institucional de aseguramiento de la calidad en sus tecnicas de medicion, se ha involucrado en un proceso de acreditacion basado en la norma ISO/IEC 17025:2005. La medición in vivo de 131I en tiroides fue seleccionada como la primera tecnica de este proceso y la misma se describe en este documento. El laboratorio CTC utiliza para esta tecnica un sistema de espectrometria gamma con detector de NaI(Tl), calibrado con un simulador de cuello provisto por el IRD y una fuente plana de 131I con forma de tiroides certificada. Se llevo a cabo un plan de validacion que permitio la caracterizacion de la tecnica de medicion de 131I, asi como la evaluacion de su incertidumbre. Se discuten los parametros de medicion que afectan la incertidumbre y se plantean recomendaciones para la optimizacion de la tecnica. (autores)Files
