Nitrobenzene valence bond structures: evidence in support of ''through-resonance'' from 17O shieldings
Description
17O shieldings in nitrobenzenes have been found to be sensitive to the electronic character of para substituents precisely in the manner anticipated from consideration of valence bond structure. Furthermore, the large sensitivity to electron density changes indicates 17O to be an attractive probe of electron distributions
