RF divertor principle study in the TFR plasmas

Description

When resonant conditions are met (coincidence between the harmonic of the cyclotron frequency and the two-ion hybrid layers), an effective cleaning of the discharge is observed. Since diverted particles are expelled out from the discharge with any high energy, they can be trapped into the wall or the limiter and no longer contribute to the plasma contamination through recycling. However, although the sputtering yield of energetic argon ions on nickel is very high, no noticeable increase of the nickel content was observed for the resonant conditions. (orig./RW)
