J/PSI radiative transitions to pseudoscalars

Description

The Crystal Ball detector at SPEAR is used to study radiative decays of the J/PSI into the pseudoscalars axion, Higgs, π0, eta, eta', iota, etasub(c) and eta'sub(c). The absence of any signal for axion and Higgs yields stringent upper limits on their production. The branching ratios for π0, eta, eta'; etasub(c) and eta'sub(c) are found to be consistent with theoretical expectations. Two new states, iota(1440) and theta(1640) (the latter being most likely a tensor particle) have been uncovered in the final states K antiK π0 and eta eta, respectively. The theoretical interpretations favor a glueball and four-quark state, respectively
